The year of the pig is upon us! Chinese New Year brings with it a festive month of events, including the Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco , the Chinese New Year Flower Fair, a street fair, and many other events, and activities. Most of these events, which go on all throughout February, are free to the public and open to kids and adults of all ages.
The Year of the Pig begins on Feb. 5, 2019 and is celebrated all through the end of the month. San Francisco has its own take on this joyous holiday and has many events and things to do all month. It all comes to a finale on Saturday February 23 during Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco. The parade will begin on Second and Market streets. beware however, If this happens to be your first parade, we definitely suggest bleacher seats. Its going to be extremely crowded, so come early and definitely plan ahead. If you decide to go for standing along the route, be sure to reserve your spot your spot well before the time of the parade.
Another great event to check out across the bay will be on oakland for the Oakland Chinatown Lunar New Year Bazaar. The event will feature vendors selling traditional new year decorations, flowers, gifts, candies, and other items related to the celebration. There will also be continuous live cultural entertainment featuring dragon and lion dancing, martial arts demonstrations, Chinese cultural music. The Event is free to the public and hours are 10AM to 5PM.
